Oppierif look to open their account

Another round of exciting Steinhoff UJ Koshuisugby kicks-off tonight at Milo Park when a confident Oppierif side meets Afslaan and ‘Drom’ face Kanniedood.

Oppierif are currently on the bottom of the log after a no-show in their first match and a loss to Bastion last week – they are desperate for a victory.

Shabs Tshabalala of Oppierif told varsitycup.co.za: “We’re hoping to get a win this week.

“Afslaan lost against ‘Drom’ (last week) and we had a pretty decent match against Bastion. We still have a couple of players out because of injury, but the guys are confident and ready to give it their all tonight.”

The match between ‘Drom’ and Kanniedood is also going to be a tough one, as these players always put their bodies on the line and give it their all.

“We have won most of our recent matches against Kanniedood and we are confident to win again tonight,” ‘Drom’s Ettienne le Roux told varsitycup.co.za. “We know what to expect of them and we do have a couple of injuries, but we’re going out to get our full five points from the match.”

If ‘Drom’ win tonight they will move into the fist position on the log, as Bastion have a bye this week.

In the second division of the Steinhoff UJ Koshuis League, DFC will play against ‘Drom’, Bastion face Vorendag, Kanniedood meet UJ’s Under-19C’s, Afslaan play against The Rugby Factory and Majuba face the Chiro’s.

“Nobody can beat us now”, were the words of a confident DFC team manager Amigo Ncgacaina, who added: “Our guys are ready after a good week’s practice.”

On the other hand, Le Roux – from ‘Drom’ – told varsitycup.co.za: “We won’t underestimate them, but we did beat them comfortably in the Uitklopliga and are looking forward to that (same result) again.”

Jomo Mashima of Majuba told varsitycup.co.za that they had a good week’s training and were “hungry” for a win.

According to Kanniedood’s Bertus Wessels, they are looking forward to a physical match and expect the U19s to run it wide as they are a lot fitter. He confessed: “We’re just going to try and keep it with the forwards and maul it up.”

Afslaan would like to stay on the top of the log when they face the Rugby Factory.

Bastion’s Francois Conradie told varsitycup.co.za: “We had a good captain’s run last night and we would like to get full points for the match against Vorendag.

“We hear though, that a couple of the university’s players will be helping them out to field a full side, so we don’t really know what to expect.”
