Top Tuks teams set for battle
Boekenhout and Sonop, the two undefeated teams in Section Y of Tukkies’ Steinhoff Winter Hostel League, cross swords on Wednesday, July 22 at LC de Villiers D.
The winner will take top spot in the Top EIght phase, which starts on Tuesday, July 28.
As things stand now, Boekenhout are leading Group Y because they have a better points’ difference than Sonop. Both hostels have 19 league points, but Boekenhout have scored 32 points more in its four games (121 to Sonop’s 89).
There will also a lot at stake in Group X’s ‘final’ where log leaders and defending champions Maroela take on second-placed Onderstepoort. Maroela are the only unbeaten side in its group, taking 24 league points from five matches. OP have 22 points, having lost of their five matches.
In the same section Mopanie are assured of a Top Eight place (21 points after six games), but the fourth hostel to go through will be decided by the outcome of the clash between Geelhout (nine points) and Taaibos (eight).
In Group X, Olienhout (12) have already joined Boekenhout and Sonop in the Top 8, but two teams are still in with a shot for the fourth spot; they are Kollege (five) and Kiaat (four).
On paper, Kiaat have the easier last group match, playing Zeus (0) that is still looking for its first win of the season. Kollege, meanwhile, have to deal with Olienhout in their last match in the preliminary round.
