Maties still unbeaten

FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International champions, FNB Maties, continued on their winning ways in the WP Super League with a hard-fought 19-9 win over NNK at the weekend.

The defending league and two times Varsity Cup champions were made to fight hard by a determined NNK team, who could muster only nine points – via three penalties – against a powerful Maties defence.

Danie Poolman scored Stellenbosch’s only try, with Henoe Stoffberg converting and adding four penalties, as the Men in Maroon claimed their third successive league win of the season.

Maties’ next fixture is against Kraaifontein this coming Friday (May 1).

Of course, Saturday, May 9 will see them come up against Varsity Cup foes, UCT, in an Intervarsity fixture at Newlands – a match that will serve as the curtain-raiser to the Stormers-Force Super 14 clash in Cape Town.
