Mighty Maties held by Durb-Bell

Durb-Bell nearly caused a huge upset, before eventually holding the FNB Maties to a 25-25 draw in a pulsating WP Super League fixture in Coetzenburg on Friday evening.

The Maties led 13-10 at half-time, but were unable to shake their determined opponents who matched them point for point and also try for try.

A converted try in the 80th minute saw Durb-Bell grab the draw, but it was a tired performance from the three times Varsity Cup champions in the second half.

The Maties, of course, have now played three big matches in the space of just seven days, so they could be excused for being a bit off their game – but in a top-of-the-log game of this nature it was always going to be crucial.

There is no rest for the Men in Maroon, however, with the 2010 National Club Championships taking place – at home – in the next few weeks.
