Powerful Maties subdue SK
Double Varsity Cup winners, FNB Maties, showed their class with a convincing 36-15 win over SK Walmers in WP Super League action at the weekend.
Maties, under the tutelage of SA Universities coach Chean Roux, bounced back from a shock loss to Durbanville-Bellville last weekend to beat one of the form teams in the Western Province Super League.
With veteran No.8 Bennie Booysen leading the way – in terms of physicality – the home side were able to dictate things against SK, who managed to score two tries on the day.
However, their two tries were cancelled out by Booysen’s brace and another four Maties scores – handing the Men from Stellenbosch a convincing, and welcome, bonus point victory at the Danie Craven Stadium.
