Boland sign Puk lock Le Roux

FNB Pukke lock Grant le Roux has signed a one-and-a-half year contract with the Boland Cavaliers, making him the umpteenth Varsity Cup player to move into a full-time professional set-up.

Le Roux, the 2008 Potchefstroom University Player of the Year, joined his new team on Monday and will be available for next weekend’s compulsory friendly against the Mighty Elephants.

The 23-year-old has come through the ranks in Potch, having played for the Leopards at Under-19 and Under-21 level.

He spent four seasons with the Pukke, playing in two FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International campaigns – including starting this year’s final against the Maties. Le Roux was also a part of last year’s National Club Championships-winning Pukke team.

Le Roux – who was born in Sasolburg – is 1,97 metres tall and weighs 110 kilograms.

Ironically, he could make his Boland Currie Cup debut against the Platinum Leopards, with the teams set to oppose each other on July 10 in the first Currie Cup match of the 2009 season.
