House-full signs go up at Craven

The 2010 Varsity Cup Final, between FNB Maties and FNB UCT, has sold out three days before Monday’s 6.30pm kick-off at the Danie Craven Stadium.

Stellenbosch’s Rugby Manager, Belius Potgieter, confirmed that all his tickets had already sold out, whilst his UCT counterpart, Gavin Sheldon, told varsitycup.co.za “that just a few student tickets remained – but would no doubt be snapped up soon”.

“It’s quite incredible, really, but it shows all the interest in this match,” said Varsity Cup CEO Duitser Bosman.

“As Francois (Pienaar) said the other day, everyone will remember the scenes at the 2008 final – when people were climbing trees and mountains to catch a glimpse of the action – and it seems we are headed in that direction yet again!

“It’s a final that everyone is looking forward to and I have no doubt that it, and the two teams in the final, will once again do the Varsity Cup proud.”

Of course, Monday is not just about the Varsity Cup Final. The 2010 final will, again, be preceded by the Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championships Final – this time between Steinhoff Dagbreek (Maties) and Steinhoff Vishuis (Shimlas).

The Koshuis Final between the country’s top rugby residences will kick-off at 4.15pm and top SA singer Kurt Darren will also be performing at the Danie Craven Stadium – as he did last year – before the Varsity Cup Final gets underway.
