Ikeys beat weather and Villagers

John Dobson’s FNB UCT side bounced back from their shock midweek loss to Victorians, beating a strong Villagers side 26-7 in WP Super League action at the Green Mile on Saturday afternoon.

The Ikey Tigers scored three tries to one in wet, muddy and windy conditions – despite losing star winger Marcello Sampson to injury shortly before kick-off.

Sampson was replaced by Dave Clayton – an original inclusion on the UCT bench – before he left the fray early on with a hand injury, leaving Pete Haw to provide cover on the wing.

UCT led 14-0 at half-time, with one try coming in the first half and two coming in the second period. Flyhalf Matt Rosslee added 11 points with the boot.

UCT’s scorers:
Tries:
Nick Fenton-Wells, Tim Whitehead, Dave Edgar
Con: Matt Rosslee
Pens: Rosslee 3

* UCT fielded six teams against Villagers on Saturday – winning all but one match, with the MC Marais XV (UCT’s fourths) going down 0-12 to the Villagers Fourths.
