Jonker gets Pukke-Shimlas Derby
The referees, for Round Three of the 2010 FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International, have been announced – with Tiaan Jonker set to officiate the big battle of next week between Pukke and Shimlas.
Of course, Pukke and Shimlas – who like many of the Varsity Cup sides count amongst the top clubs in the country, overall – play an annual Intervarsity match against each other; an encounter the Free Staters have not won since 2004.
The Shimlas have also not beaten the Pukke in two previous Varsity Cup encounters (Pukke won 35-24 in 2008 and 27-15 in 2009), whilst the Men from Bloemfontein have not won an encounter between these two teams in Potchefstroom since 1997.
In other Round Three encounters next Monday, Mlungiseli Mdashe will officiate the TUT v Tuks match, Ben Crouse will be the man in the middle when UJ host the defending champion Maties and Archie Sehlako will take charge of the NMMU-UCT battle in Port Elizabeth.
