'Kaptein' butchers national anthem
WATCH: South African singer and songwriter Kurt Darren has joined the hall of infamy.
Darren, an award-winning artist that is famous for among others the song Kaptein (Span Die Seile), completed butchered the national anthem at the Varsity Cup Final in Stellenbosch on Monday.
The bumbling performance caused a storm on social media and placed him of the list of infamous anthem butchers with Ard Matthews and Ras Dumisani.
Dear @StellenboschUni and @FNBSA #VarsityCup. Rather not sing it at all than insult our Nation & African languages. If you don’t have black students to sing the National Anthem, just don’t do it. Nxa. pic.twitter.com/yww6D8qUCl
