Minor UJ changes for Shimlas clash

University of Johannesburg (FNB UJ) head coach Hugo van As has made two changes to his starting line-up for Monday’s Varsity Cup clash with FNB Shimlas at the UJ Stadium.

Last week’s replacement JJ Pienaar moves from the bench into the No.12 jersey while Oscar Mfundisi comes in on the left wing for Yannick Wombo.

Wombo, penalised a number of times last week for high tacking, drops straight out of the squad with Itumeleng Mogotsi filling the final spot on the reserves bench.

Star fullback Earl Lewis continues at the back for UJ, but will be hoping for some better possession this week than he received in the 32-12 defeat to FNB UCT in Cape Town last Monday.

Up front, UJ have named the same powerful pack of forwards who started the game against the Ikeys – including the big front three of Clint van Niekerk, captain Neil Visagie and Wayne Swart.

The FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International is heading into the fourth round this coming week and both UJ and Shimlas are in need of a win to keep themselves in contention for a spot in the semifinals.

FNB UJ: 15 Earl Lewis, 14 Edrich van Tonder, 13 Clinton de Klerk, 12 JJ Pienaar, 11 Oscar Mfundisi, 10 Arno Coetzee, 9 Jaco Snyman, 8 Sisa Mafu, 7 Torrie Meyer, 6 Frikkie Maartens, 5 Andries Nel, 4 Rob Andrew, 3 Clint van Niekerk , 2 Neil Visagie (captain), 1 Wayne Swart.
Replacements: 16 Edgar Marutlulle, 17 Ryno Bosman, 18 Martyn Lombard, 19 Julian Erasmus, 20 Bakkies van Zyl, 21 Andre Smit, 22 Itumeleng Mogotsi.

Head coach: Hugo van As

Kick-off: Monday, February 23, 4.45pm, UJ Stadium
