Tannah's new VC challenge
Tannah Stroebel, from NWU-Pukke, will take an official post on the Varsity Cup organising committee next year – a great opportunity for the long-serving rugby man, but also an astute decision by the VC’s powers-that-be.
According to CEO Duitser Bosman, Tannah will serve as the Varsity Cup’s Operational Assistant – an important job in making sure the tournament’s logistics and marketing plans are implemented accordingly in 2011.
With the tournament continuing to grow on an annual basis – not to mention the addition of the brand-new Varsity Shield – Stroebel’s appointment was not taken lightly.
“Tannah will be a crucial member of our team next year,” stressed Bosman to varsitycup.co.za.
“He will serve as the link man between the 13 universities – the eight Varsity Cup and five Varsity Shield teams,” he explained. “It’s a very important position, as communication is essential to maintain the high standards we have set in the Varsity Cup thus far.”
Stroebel, meanwhile, was looking forward to taking up his new position.
“The hard work starts now,” chuckled the man who served as Pukke’s team manager in the 2010 Varsity Cup, “there’s no rest for the wicked!
“I’ve done six great years at Pukke – including this year as the first team manager – and I’ve been lucky enough to have been involved with the Varsity Cup since its inception.
“It was the logical step for me,” he told varsitycup.co.za.
“In my opinion the Varsity Cup has changed the rugby horizon in this country; forever and for the greater good. I’m very excited to be involved in a tournament like this on a full-time basis and I’m looking forward to my new job.”
Stroebel will officially take up his new post on October 1.
