Two changes for in-form Shimlas

FNB Shimlas coach Jaco Swanepoel has made just two changes to his starting XV for next Monday’s FNB Varsity Cup presented by Steinhoff International clash against FNB UCT in Cape Town.

Shimlas smashed FNB Tukkies 39-22 in Bloemfontein this past week and they will be looking for their third win of the season at Groote Schuur.

Ironically, before their win over Tukkies, Shimlas’ previous victory this season had come in Cape Town when they beat NMMU 37-11 on the opening day of the 2009 Varsity Cup (February 2).

The only changes to the Shimlas XV this week sees Shagan Windvogel move from the bench to replace Wouter Stieger in the No.14 shirt, whilst up front Willie Britz comes in for Wilken Heyns in the No.7 jersey.

Heyns is on Vodacom Cup duty for the Cheetahs, meaning Britz – who was on the bench against Tukkies – will team up with the two André’s, Tredoux (No.6) and Grobbelaar (No.8), in the Shimlas back row.

It will be Britz’s first start in the 2009 Varsity Cup, with Paul Roux once again providing loose forward cover from the bench.

Swanepoel, meanwhile, has made some other adjustments to his bench; with Hans Grobler, Sewes Oosthuizen and Pieter Labuschagne replacing fellow forwards Frank Herne, Charles Marais and Wilken Heyns, respectively.

Windvogel’s promotion to the starting XV means there is a bench place for young flyhalf Lionel Cronjé, who – along with Labuschagne – has been unavailable for a few weeks because of SA Under-20 trials.

FNB Shimlas: 15 Llewellyn Adonis, 14 Shagan Windvogel, 13 Cameron Jacobs, 12 Niël Jacobs, 11 Roelof Steyn, 10 Jaco Colyn (captain), 9 Marlin Ruiters, 8 Arné Grobbelaar, 7 Willie Britz, 6 André Tredoux, 5 Frans la Grange, 4 Phillip Steyn, 3 Drew van Coller, 2 Gert Erasmus, 1 Roelof Koorsen.
Replacements: 16 Hans Grobler, 17 Sewes Oosthuizen, 18 Pieter Labuschagne, 19 Paul Roux, 20 Johan van Niekerk, 21 Earl Snyman, 22 Lionel Cronjé.

Head coach: Jaco Swanepoel
Assistant coach: Dougie Heymans

Kick-off: Monday, March 9, 6.45pm, Groote Schuur Fields
