UCT not good enough

Varsity Cup outfit, FNB UCT, suffered a heavy 21-51 WP Super League defeat at the hands of NNK at the Jan Burger Stadium in Parow on Friday.

The students have been in fine form of late, claiming three bonus points in succession, but they were unable to get into their stride against their fired-up hosts.

NNK scored six tries to three, with new Ikey Tigers hooker Matthew Page scoring a try double and No.8 Sam Peter grabbed his team’s third score on a disappointing night.

The hosts led 21-7 at half-time, despite the efforts of experienced Ikeys flanker Craig Kleu and debutant lock Pallo Manuel up front.

The Tigers face the table-topping Hamilton’s at Groote Schuur this coming Saturday and stand-in head coach Kevin Foote will look to rally his troops ahead of this massive Super League encounter – especially after the Ikeys suffered an unlucky last-gasp loss the last time these two sides met.
