Yaya's Currie Cup chance

FNB UCT forward Yaya Hartzenberg could make his Currie Cup debut on Friday night, after being named on the bench for Western Province’s trip to Potchefstroom to face the Leopards.

Hartzenberg, a member of the Ikey Tigers side that made it to the 2010 Varsity Cup Final – where they went down to Stellenbosch – has been named on a forwards-heavy Western Province bench; with a five-two split between the ‘heavies’ and the backs.

The recently-turned 21-year-old has been part of the various WP youth systems ever since his school days and his promotion to the Currie Cup squad is just reward for his Varsity Cup form this season and, also, his efforts for the WP Under-21 team.

Joining Hartzenberg in the WP squad are fellow Ikeys colleagues, centre Tim Whitehead and lock Martin Muller, whilst multiple VC champions, the Maties, will be represented by the likes of Paul Bosch, Rynardt Elstadt and Conrad Hoffmann – three other Varsity Cup graduates from this year.

The Western Province team: 15 Conrad Jantjes, 14 Fabian Juries, 13 Tim Whitehead, 12 Paul Bosch, 11 Frikkie Welsh, 10 Willem de Waal, 9 Dewaldt Duvenage, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Rynardt Elstadt, 6 Pieter Louw, 5 Anton van Zyl (captain), 4 Adriaan Fondse, 3 Brok Harris, 2 Deon Fourie, 1 JD Moller.
Replacements: 16 Tiaan Liebenberg, 17 JC Kritzinger, 18 Martin Muller, 19 Yaya Hartzenberg, 20 Pieter Myburgh, 21 Conrad Hoffmann, 22 Lionel Cronjé.

Kick-off: 7.10pm
