Stadium Guide: Brighton Community Stadium
(Capacity – 30,750)
The construction of the ground cost £93m- with the ground receiving praise for its semi-circular stand roofs and tubular supporting steelwork from architectures and fans from sport.
This was built to replace a local football team’s decrepit Goldstone Ground; it has ample space- with luxurious and comfortable seats. There are plans to make the stadium bigger and better by the time the World Cup comes around.
The first competitive soccer game was played in the 2010-11 season- with the final of the Sussex Senior Cup between Brighton and Eastbourne Borough. The first league game was against Doncaster Rovers, who were the opponents of the last ever game played at Brighton’s former stadium, the Goldstone Ground, 14 years earlier.
The record attendance at the ground was 30,003, when Brighton took on Wolverhampton Wanderers on May 4 2013. This was the last league game of the season – with this figure has not been beaten up till now. In May 2013, it was announced that the stadium would host World Cup matches.
