Just like Midlands counterpart Pride Park, the stadium old ground was replaced with state of the art facilities. This is the 19th largest stadium in England.

The biggest attendance for football was 32,188, when Leicester took on Spanish Giants Real Madrid in 2011, which was a pre-season friendly. The biggest record attendance was 32,488 for a rugby union match between Leicester Tigers and Bath in 2006. This was one of six rugby matches that took place at this stadium.

Other matches to take place on the ground were the 2005 Heineken Cup semifinals which Leicester Tigers lost against Toulouse.  They won Llanelli in European Cup semifinals in 2007; this was their first win on this ground.  In 2009, they played Bath in Heineken Cup quarterfinals, which they won. The Tigers played a round-robin match against Bristol in the Guinness Premiership in 2008-2009 season as well as a quarterfinal match against Bath.

The only Rugby international match that took place on this ground was in 2006, when a world XV took on South Africa. The match was played in honour of the Springboks, who celebrated a centenary of overseas tours. The Springboks took the game 32-7.

This ground will host three 2015 Rugby World Cup Matches.
