New Zealand claimed the last semifinal berth with a 29-13 win over Canada in Villeneuve.

With no upsets in the quarterfinals, it was down to the remaining four.

In the first semifinal, Scotland against England, it was the battle of the fullbacks with both Gavin Hastings and Jon Webb kicking over two penalties each. However, the difference was a Rob Andrew drop-goal, which clinched the win for England.

The next game was the battle of the neighbours, with the All Blacks taking on the Wallabies. This was the biggest upset of the 1991 World Cup when the Wallabies won 16-6.

Scotland then face New Zealand in the third-place play-off and this time around there was no upset – New Zealand walked away as 13-6 winners.
