According to recent reports, the Western Province Rugby Football Union is set to sell Newlands Stadium due to their much-publicised financial woes. They are then expected to make the move to the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point in the near future.

When asked about this recent development, Bok head coach Rassie Erasmus rather reflected on how “special” the iconic stadium has been for South African rugby.

“I only really heard that [news] this morning [Monday],” Erasmus told reporters in Cape Town.

“Having coached here and played her a lot, I think it is a wonderful stadium. It’s beautiful and everyone knows how we feel about tradition in South Africa.

“I’m not sure if it’s true, what is the reasoning behind it but whatever it is Newlands in special and we will enjoy the occasion if it is the last one or not. I can’t really comment because I don’t know the details

“It is a lovely stadium to play in.”

The Springboks have already secured a series victory against England after their 23-12 win over England in Bloemfontein last weekend.

Erasmus’ side opened the series with a 42-39 win over England in the first Test at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

South Africa’s recent success has seen them rise from seventh to fifth in the latest World Rugby Rankings.
