NEWS: Speculation around Jasper Wiese’s playing future has finally ended.

On Monday, Japanese club D-Rocks confirmed that they have signed the Springbok No.8.

It was in December when Wiese announced that he was leaving English club Leicester Tigers at the end of the 2023/2024 season.

After that announcement, he was linked to ‘big-money’ moves to France and Japan.

Earlier this year, he also hinted on the Behind the Ruck show that the destination could be South Africa.

“My decision [to depart Welford Road] was around the family,” he said at the time.

“My father hates travelling and doesn’t fly, so he never came to England.

“It is a family decision for me.

“When you are based in South Africa, it is a bit easier.”

However, Wiese will now join coach Johan Ackermann at D-Rocks, who recently promoted the side to Division One in Japan next season.

The World Cup winner is currently part of the South Africa squad that will take on Ireland over the next two weeks.

However, he is ineligible to play due to the red card he received in his final Leicester outing in May.

“I am very excited to be a member of the Urayasu D-Rocks,” Wiese said after his move was announced.

“I am looking forward to being a part of the D-Rocks and will play my best in every game to help the team win.”
