UPDATE: Security in place in case Zelt plans to 'gate-crash' elections
EXCLUSIVE: Former Western Province Rugby Football Union President Zelt Marais’ hopes of having any say in the elections on Wednesday have been dealt a body blow.
Marais was nominated for four positions: President, Deputy President, Vice President and Executive Committee member.
However, his hopes of involvement in the game were dashed when the South African Rugby Union confirmed that an independent Appeal Panel upheld a disciplinary sanction of misconduct against Marais.
Marais was expected to contest the election ‘under protest’, but strict measures will be in place to ensure he doesn’t take part in the process on Wednesday evening.
SARU confirmed that their appointed administrator, Peter Jooste, will monitor the elections on their behalf.
There will also be a SARU-appointed auditor’s firm and SARU-appointed lawyers that will monitor the elections.
Furthermore, there will also be security to ensure that only accredited delegates enter the premises.
No observers are allowed.
Marais’ name has been scratched from the ballot, and he will not be allowed to enter the premises.
