Bok wing's blood is blue

Record-breaking wing Bjorn Basson has extended his contract with the Bulls and will be available for the Pretoria franchise until the end of October 2016.

Basson, who holds the national and Currie Cup record for tries in a season and the Bulls’ record for tries in a Super Rugby season, was also part of the Springbok squad in 2013.

The 26-year-old try-scoring machine put pen to paper on Wednesday and according to Bulls coach Frans Ludeke, this is a significant boost for his squad ahead of the 2014 Super Rugby season.

“There is little debate on Bjorn’s abilities to score tries and his aerial play is second to none, both important elements of our play at the Bulls, so we are very happy for him to sign on.

“We also lost a number of experienced players after the last Super Rugby competition and as such, is a huge boost to the squad to have a senior player and a Springbok to that, committing himself to the team for the next couple of years,” Ludeke said.

Blue Bulls High Performance Manager, Xander Janse van Rensburg, also expressed his delight at the signing.

“A number of teams were very keen to get Bjorn on their side of the field, but he was determined that he wanted to stay in Pretoria to help the franchise achieving their goals of being the No.1 team in the competition.

"His attitude and ability will be a massive asset to us in years to come,” said Janse van Rensburg.
