Mapoe's Super season over

Bulls wing Lionel Mapoe will miss the remainder of the Super Rugby season due to a shoulder injury.

The versatile outside back sustained the injury on Saturday during his side’s 30-25 win over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

According to Bulls team doctor, Org Strauss, Mapoe will be out for at least six to eight weeks, but if operated upon, could miss the rest of the season.

“Lionel will see a specialist on Tuesday, who will decide what the next step is. He had a scan today which showed some damage,” said Strauss.

There was good news for Francois Venter though, as the midfielder, who had a groin operation, will be fit once the squad assemble again.

Akona Ndungane (1 week, back) and Wiaan Liebenberg (three weeks, shoulder) will be available for selection when the competition resumes after the June break but Paul Willemse (seven weeks, knee) and Cornell Hess (six months, knee) still face lengthy lay-offs.
