NEWS: In a very unfortunate incident, world-class referee Jaco Peyper had to be replaced during the World Cup quarterfinal match between Wales and Argentina on Saturday.

Officiating his 67th test match, Peyper limbed off the field after 15 minutes due to injury.

English referee Karl Dickson replaced the South African official.

The official explained that he needed to go off due to a left leg injury sustained when awkwardly jumping out of the way of a Montoya carry to an earlier Argentine ruck.

“My calf is gone,” he said. “I couldn’t keep up with play there. We’re going to have to change referee, give it over to Dickson here. Just give us a minute.”

Wales had the 7-0 lead when Peyper left the field.

The match was Peyper’s second quarterfinal after he took charge of Wales versus France in 2019 in Japan.
