Marais Viljoen win again

Too strong for Jeppe

Marais Viljoen of Alberton marched on Jeppe and beat the home side 48-11 on Wednesday.

This means that Marais Viljoen, such a powerful side in 2004, are back on song again this year. So far they are unbeaten and certain to win their pool  in the Michelin Series for 16 top schools in Northvaal. In their latest match they beat Florida 16-3. Earlier in the Michelin Series, they beat EG Jansen of Boksburg 20-5 and Hugenote of Springs 22-5.

Against Jeppe the Marais Viljoen forwards dominated again and in particular in the line-outs where Wessel Castelyn, Hein Petzer and Wesley Kotze always proved a thorn in the opposition’s side.

The backline also got into the act by scoring some excellent tries through interplay between forwards and backs.  Marais Viljoen scored seven tries, three by the backs and four by the forwards.

Jeppe’s flyhalf scored his side’s lonely try.

At half-time Marais Viljoen led 22-6.

Marais Viljoen leaves for Mossel Bay on Sunday and return a week later to play in the St. John’s tournament.
