Selborne Head for King

It’s about 60 km up the R346 to get to Dale College in King William’s Town from Selborne College in East London. They first did this trip for a rugby match in 1892 and have done so in friendly rivalry many, many times. Since 2012 they have been doing it home and away each year.

Both of schools enjoy positive, exciting rugby, and there is no reason why it should not be the same this year.

Season So Far

Both these schools will take on the best in the land, and they are both a force for good in South African rugby.

Selborne have played 11 matches in a rather inconsistent season. They won eight times, including victories over strong Framesby, Noord-Kaap and Northwood, and lost to Kearsney, Jeppe and Grey Bloem. That match against Grey, lost 217-8, may just have been Selborne’s best performance of the year.

Dale have played eight matches, winning six, drawing with Graeme College and losing (49-46) to Ben Vorster of Tzaneen.

Both schools have played against Marlow Landbou of Cradock and Queen’s College of Queenstown.

Dale beat Marlow 19-17 and Queen’s 32-6.
Selborne beat Marlow 33-19 and Queen’s 36-17.

At present Selborne are ranked 19th on the Top 20 with Dale in the pressure group just below the Top 20.

Dale have home ground advantage and – and this is important – it is Dale’s Reunion Day. The support will be louder and more urgent than usual.
