Westville undefeated at Wynberg Festival

Report

Westville Boys’ High School’s 1st XV travelled to Cape Town to participate in the Wynberg Boys’ High School’s 165th Celebration Rugby Festival from Thursday 27 April to Saturday 29 April

The first game against Northern Cape High from Kimberly proved a very physical encounter. The larger Northern Cape forwards placed immense pressure on the Westville tight five, only to be outdone by the more mobile Westville loose trio, especially at the point of contact. Once again, Westville’s superior structure and patient build up in attack, resulted in a comfortable 20-3 victory.

The second game was played against the hosts, Wynberg. A highly motivated home side, cheered on by a partisan home crowd, set about taking the game to the visitors, Westville. Westville’s three-quarters once again applied pressure, and show accomplished touches when spreading the ball wide. Scrumhalf Tian Meyer’s sniping breaks were rewarded with two tries, as Westville tightened their grip on the game to emerge 25-15 victors.

After a very successful run of late, Westville will be confident ahead of their clash with Glenwood. Glenwood will be looking to avenge their narrow loss against rivals DHS, making this clash the pick of the upcoming weekend’s domestic fixtures.
