Klein opts for youth in Cheetah Queens squad
SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT: The Cheetah Queens’ head coach, Aschin Klein, has unveiled his 2025 Women’s Premier Division squad, striking a balance between experience and youth.
Despite a second-from-last finish in their inaugural season, Klein has resisted the urge for wholesale changes, instead opting for a refreshing evolution.
The mentor has retained some key players from the former head coach and has injected fresh talent from the Junior Springboks and SWD EaGirls, who won the first division in 2024.
This influx of young stars, including two u18 players from the SARU Youth Week, showed Klein’s commitment to rebuilding the Cheetah Queens and establishing a clear pathway from grassroots to the Premier Division.
The team will regroup at the Cheetah Den on January 5, 2025, with preseason preparations commencing on January 6. Their first pre-season game is scheduled for January 11 in Pretoria against the reigning back-to-back champions.
The Cheetah Queens will kick off their 2025 campaign with back-to-back away games against Western Province in Cape Town (January 25) and the Sharks Ladies in Durban.
“I’d like to congratulate the selected squad on making it through a tough preseason,” Klein said.
