Janse van Rensburg was cited by independent citing commissioner Paul Hull following the match between Exeter Chiefs and Sale Sharks on Saturday, January 25. This was for a dangerous tackle on Exeter Chiefs’ Gareth Steenson in the 32nd minute of the match contrary to World Rugby Law 9.13.

The former Lions centra contested the charge which was dismissed by the independent panel comprising Sam Hillas (chair) with John Greenwood and John Downham. He is free to play again immediately.

Independent panel chair Sam Hillas said: “The panel carefully considered the footage in conjunction with the high tackle sanction framework. The panel found, on the balance of probabilities, that there had not been contact with the player’s shoulder to the head of Gareth Steenson.

“As such, the panel considered the correct sanction was a yellow card and the citing was dismissed.”
