Super Rugby: Predictions for the 2019 quarterfinals
It’s a knockout. Well, it will be for four Super Rugby teams. After what feels like yonks, we’ve reached the business end of the competition.
And perhaps we can finally stop saying that you can expect the unexpected when making your Super Rugby predictions. Or can we?
It’s a bit of a mixed bag this weekend, but it looks like the South African tenacity might end here. The weekend will start off with the defending champs, the Crusaders, hosting the Highlanders. We pop across for a bit of midnight fun in Argentina later on where the Jaguares take on the Chiefs.
Jaguares suffered four losses in their first six matches and the Chiefs fared even worse, winning one match, drawing one and losing four.
Both teams then turned their seasons around against the Northern Bulls at a ground far from their bases in Buenos Aires and Hamilton, 125 kilometres (78 miles) south of Auckland.
Twice champions Chiefs were winless and desperate when they came to the Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria – a venue where they were humiliated 61-17 in the 2009 final.
But three months ago there was no repeat of that embarrassing scoreline as the Chiefs scored seven tries in a 56-20 romp that went a long way toward turning the season around.
The weekend winds down with the Hurricanes vs the Bulls and the Brumbies vs the Sharks.
As is the case every week, R365 is here to help you make those Super Rugby predictions for the weekend ahead. We use an algorithm from one of New Zealand’s leading statisticians – but you use these predictions at your own risk.
As we’ve seen with this season’s fixtures, though, nothing is certain. The only thing you can expect for sure is the unexpected.
Here’s how things shape up for the weekend ahead. Don’t forget to check back for our Super Rugby previews and keep an eye on the Super Rugby results and Super Rugby log to see how the quarterfinals for this year are shaping up.
