VIDEO: Stormers explain Hacjivah's switch to the wing

SPOTLIGHT: Stormers assistant coach Dawie Snyman confirmed that loose forward Hacjivah Dayimani will be used on the wing in Saturday’s friendly against Northampton Saints.

The 26-year-old has been listed as part of the backline cover among an 11-man bench for the match in England.

The Stormers will be putting Dayimani’s versatility to the test again as well as preparing for any potential injury crisis that might occur in the future.

“He will play there [on the wing] in the second half and it’s just about giving him that opportunity because we do go six-two [on the bench] a lot when we play,” said Snyman.

“So, if there is a crisis, we know that he can cover us in that position.”

He added: “I think we have got enough quality players in that position, but you may need it [Dayimani’s switch] in the match.

“If you look at where Hacjivah gets most of his opportunities [with carries], it is in those channels.

“We want our loose forwards to combine well with our backline players because we have so much speed in our loose trio.

“It’s a bit of a combination thing, but it’s also about knowing that if do need cover in that position, then he can do the job for us.”

The Stormers coaches will also have a keen eye on some of the other combinations, especially in that flyhalf and midfield channel.

“It’s an opportunity for us to build our squad depth. I think at this point we can go into a game where we are comfortable with Jurie Matthee starting a URC semifinal.

“We are giving him an opportunity to play with guys like Dan du Plessis and Warrick [Gelant].

“It’s a bit of game time for players but also an opportunity to get guys exposed to these conditions against a quality side.”
