Springboks explain jersey 'mystery'
WORLD CUP REACTION: The mystery surrounding the Springboks’ different jerseys in the quarterfinal win over Japan has been solved.
Flyhalf Handre Pollard and lock Lodewyk de Jager appeared for the second half of their 26-3 in Tokyo this past Sunday with jerseys on which the World Cup logo was missing.
Instead, the leaping Springbok appeared proudly on the right chest of the two players – with all their teammates still sporting World Cup logos on the right chest.
It appears the supplier was to blame for the ‘mistake’.
“A mix-up in supply led to the delivery of a small number of incorrectly branded jerseys, by which point it was too late to source replacements,” a team spokesman said.
Social media was abuzz with speculation as to what caused the mix-up.
South Africa face Wales in the semifinal this coming Sunday.
The winner of that match will play the victor of the England versus New Zealand face-off – a match that will be played on Saturday.
